WTF made it to the dictionary this time

(unabridged.merriam-webster.com/)

Thanks to the internet, “WTF,” “emoji,” “photobomb,” “meme,” and a couple more words have made it to the latest edition of Merriam-Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary.

It was announced last Tuesday that they added 1,700 new entries and 3,200 more sentence examples to add context to some words. Most of the new words are technology, economy, and food terms.

Along with “WTF” (nope, not “Where’s the food?”), “emoji,” and “photobomb,” the words “jegging” (a portmanteau of “leggings” and “jeans”), “macaron” (a fancy French cookie), “NSFW” (not safe for work) were also added to the dictionary.

If you’re looking for the words “selfie,” “hashtag,” and “tweep,” they have been added to the dictionary last year, while “YOLO,” “amazeballs,” and “humblebrag” were last-year additions to the Oxford Dictionary.

You know, it looks like Urban Dictionary really is a goldmine for lexicographers after all.
